What to Expect at a Case Management Conference
Home / What to Expect at a Case Management Conference
Hi, my name is Steve Glazer. I’m an attorney in Arizona with the Glazer Law Office. Today’s topic is called Case Management Conference and What to Expect.
First of all, what’s a case management conference? A case management conference is a hearing where you go to the court, you report to the court what’s going to happen in a case. Is it going to go to trial? Is it going to be resolved by a plea agreement? The court doesn’t care which way. They just want to know what’s going on in the case. Do you want a plea agreement? Fine, if you’ve reached a plea agreement, fine they’ll settle for a change of plea. If you want a trial, fine, they’ll give you a rail date. They don’t care. They just want to know what you want to do.
What you should expect as a client, every time I have reached out to the prosecutor well before the case conference date, talked about the case with the prosecutor. We will receive a plea agreement in advance. We’ll have discussed it with the client, so that by the time we get to court for the case management conference I can tell the judge what we’re going to do with certainty well ahead of time. So, what you should expect as the client, you should stand up when your case is called, you get called to the podium, I would be there with you, and I would simply report what is going to happen in your case to the judge.
It’s a very simple process. It only takes a couple minutes, and as a client you really won’t be talking at all. You’ll just be listening.
